Vice Principal

I am delighted to be joining the Trinity MAT family as Vice Principal of Trinity Academy Leeds. I moved to Leeds to study English at the university, fell in love with the city’s vibrance, culture and diversity and never went home!

I have worked in three secondary schools across Leeds and Bradford, over the past two decades, improving the life chances of young people. I began my career as a Teacher of English developing strategies to help all children succeed. I moved on to become Head of English, creating a coherent and driven team, who raised aspirations and outcomes, ensuring young people in our care could succeed in their chosen field. A career highlight was taking A level students to Zambia, where we taught English and raised money to install electricity in a local school. In my most recent post, as Assistant Head Teacher for Raising Achievement, I have nurtured and developed staff to ensure excellence comes as standard. As a consequence, I was invited to address undergraduates at Leeds Trinity University on effective teaching – an invitation that will be extended this year.

As a Senior Leader, I completed a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and am a firm believer in leading from the front. Mandella said, ‘Education is the most powerful weapon we have with which to change the world.’ I have witnessed students’ world’s transformed through quality education and cannot wait to help the young people joining Trinity Academy Leeds to Reach Higher, See Further, Shine Brighter. Outside of school, I am an avid fan of live music and theatre and have been known to play saxophone in a Swing Band.

I am excited to be joining the Trinity MAT as Assistant Principal of Trinity Academy Leeds in September. I have been following the progress of the building work closely and cannot wait to see the finished product. Leeds Trinity Academy promises to be an incredible setting for our students to achieve their potential and will inspire a new generation of children in Leeds.

During my teaching career, I have worked in two secondary schools in the Leeds area. I have spent the last 7 years working in the East of Leeds as a Science specialist and recently as Head of Upper School. I am incredibly passionate that every child deserves a first-class education to not only achieve but surpass their potential.

One of the facts not lost on me is that the new Academy is located closely to the site of the former Burtons clothing factory, where many of my relatives, including my grandparents worked. My Grandparents lived in nearby Ebor Gardens, a stone’s throw from the new Academy and whilst I was just a young child when they lived there, I grew up hearing stories about going to school at St Charles, now St Patricks our neighbouring school and playing football on the fields close by.

Consequently, I am well aware of the history of the area which Trinity Academy will serve and the significant part local people have played in making Leeds the city it is today. I look forward to playing my part in supporting the community, especially the young people who join us to fulfil their ambitions, maximise their potential and in turn build on the rich legacy of the area. Away from school, I enjoy playing football and watching Leeds United back where they belong!
