Attendance

At Trinity Academy Leeds we believe:

‘Strong attendance is the backbone of strong achievement.

Accurate attendance is the backbone of strong safeguarding.’

Every moment in school counts for your child / children and the days missed add up quickly. The best place for your child to be during term-time in is school, surrounded by the support of their friends and teachers. This is important not just for your child’s learning, but also for their overall wellbeing, wider development and their mental health.

As you are aware Trinity Academy Leeds have high expectations in all areas of school life, attendance and punctuality are no exception. We are writing this letter to provide you with a clear outline about absence procedures and the school and Local Authority responses to student attendance. Excellent attendance at school is directly linked to success in school and later life. We want all students to achieve 100% attendance. We do understand that absence may occur due to illness, however this should be rare.

Trinity Academy Leeds are working alongside Synergy Education & Welfare Service (SEWS) to reduce persistent absenteeism, improve attendance and punctuality. SEWS alongside the school and the Local Authority we will take appropriate action, statutory or other, if unauthorised absences are accumulated and attendance thresholds are not being met by individual students.

If your child’s attendance falls below 98% at TAL, parental / guardian meetings will take place with the Attendance team and formal TAL and SEWS letters will be sent out, to support you to improve your child’s attendance.

Process for reporting absence

If there is a reason for your child’s absence on a particular day, it is essential that a phone call is made to Trinity Academy Leeds before 8am on 0113 4831126, Option 1.

Medical appointments should be booked outside of the school hours. Where an emergency appointment is necessary in school hours, medical evidence (GP letter, proof of medication) must be provided via email attendance@leeds.trinitymat.org) or handed in to Reception, for this absence to be authorised. Please email or hand in medical evidence prior to the
appointment, as soon as you have received it. Should your child have a seasonal cough or cold or another medical ailment please let us know in advance and our medically trained professionals can support and look after them. Please ring Reception in advance who can talk you through how we can support students in school.

Leave of Absence during school term

To apply for leave from school, parents/carers must complete and submit this form in advance of the proposed leave and before committing to any expense. The Principal will decide whether to authorise the absence or not. Under Regulation 11 of The School Attendance (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2024, leave of absence during term time may not be granted unless the request is made in advance and justified by ‘exceptional circumstances’

Ms K Pomeroy

Lead Teacher, Attendance

I am honoured to lead the Attendance team at Trinity Academy Leeds, who strive every day to safeguard our students and support them in maintaining their strong attendance. The team care deeply about every student at TAL, with an aim to empower them to experience every wonderful opportunity on their TAL journey

At Trinity Academy Leeds, we understand the importance of students attending a school where they feel a sense of belonging to a community. Striving for 100% attendance allows them to experience every world class moment and opportunity that is on offer to them at the academy, as well as forming strong connections to those in their community. We provide students with a strong pastoral support system, allowing students to feel safe and ready to thrive every day.
Every one of our students deserves the very best outcomes, and educational research across the country shows the direct impact that high attendance has on positive academic outcomes, as well as their personal development. We are proud to focus on the punctuality of our students, who are ready and motivated to learn before 8am every morning. During Morning Recall, Team Time and Inspire assemblies, students are taught about the importance of attendance and punctuality, not only for their development and outcomes during their time at the academy, but more importantly to set them up to be successful when they start their next chapter after Trinity Academy Leeds.
The attendance team work with specific year groups within the academy, to offer support and guidance to students and families. Take a look below to meet the team.

Lead Attendance Officer

At Trinity Academy Leeds we are committed to ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive in a supportive and engaging learning environment.

We understand that attendance is about much more than being present in the classroom. When students have strong attendance, this has a positive impact on their academic outcomes, as well as their physical and emotional wellbeing. I work closely with students and families to identify and overcome barriers that can affect a student's ability to attend school regularly. My work with students helps to build their sense of belonging, within our TAL community.
