Principal’s Blog: Issue 4

Welcome to edition four of my blog! It’s difficult to believe that several months ago we were still awaiting planning permission and now our dreams are becoming reality! Part of the steel frame is now up, it won’t be long before the floors are poured and we can start to climb the stairs! Despite the cold weather and dark nights drawing in, the building team have been unstoppable, putting in many hours of hard work to ensure that our school can open for September 2021.

Challenge Winners!

This has proved to be our most popular competition to date, and I was delighted to see all the creative approaches to the Autumn leaves challenge. Winners of this challenge will receive a beautifully illustrated book of poetry and some Christmas chocolate to reward their efforts. I will be dropping these off at Primary Schools over the weeks to come.

Year 6 Challenge

Christmas Challenge!

Yes, it is nearly that time again (!) and in the run up to the holiday I would like to launch a TAL Christmas Challenge. I am challenging you to design our first Trinity Academy Leeds Christmas card. This should be Christmas themed but might contain our logo or school motto, the design is up to you! All entries will receive a special Christmas treat and the winning entry will be professionally printed and sent to parents/carers, schools, and businesses throughout the city. If you would like to take part, please post your design on plain paper (one side of A4 only) to the following address: Free School Office, Cathedral Academy, Thornes Rd, Wakefield WF2 8QF. The deadline for all entries is Friday 11th December.

My favourite colour…

This week our team has been involved in choosing the colour scheme for the inside of our brand-new school. We want this to reflect the colours of our school badge so expect shades of purple with the odd flash of yellow! The plans look really impressive, we can’t wait to put our TAL stamp on the walls even more with specially chosen artwork, and we will be asking our founding cohort to contribute to this.

Year 6 Transition Programme

We are looking forward to receiving the details of all our new TAL family in March time, when as parents/carers you will also find out if you have been awarded a place. Once we have this information, our TAL transition programme will officially begin. We will be in regular contact with you and you will be invited to a range of consultation and information events online. Hopefully as we draw nearer to the site being completed, we will be able to invite families to visit the school building itself. I hope that those of you who live near to the site are keeping an eye on progress for me! One of our students is receiving detailed updates as her grandad is part of the team putting up the steel and proudly helping us to build his granddaughter’s school!

Sporting Stars!

At Trinity Academy Leeds we are keen to keep our students active and engaged through a range of exciting sporting opportunities. We have already secured the specialist support and tuition of Leeds United Football Club, Leeds Futsal and LDM Basketball who can’t wait to start working with our young people through our extra-curricular programme, Involve. We are looking forward to cheering on our students as they take part and compete in a range of inter-form competitions throughout the year!

Staff Spotlight….

We are delighted to introduce the latest member of the Trinity Academy Leeds team, Mr Richard Gouland, who will be joining us as Assistant Principal for Behaviour, Attendance and Safeguarding.

Mr Richard Gouland

I am excited to be joining the Trinity MAT as Assistant Principal of Trinity Academy Leeds in September. I have been following the progress of the building work closely and cannot wait to see the finished product. Leeds Trinity Academy promises to be an incredible setting for our students to achieve their potential and will inspire a new generation of children in Leeds.

During my teaching career, I have worked in two secondary schools in the Leeds area. I have spent the last 7 years working in the East of Leeds as a Science specialist and recently as Head of Upper School. I am incredibly passionate that every child deserves a first-class education to not only achieve but surpass their potential.

One of the facts not lost on me is that the new Academy is located closely to the site of the former Burtons clothing factory, where many of my relatives, including my grandparents worked. My Grandparents lived in nearby Ebor Gardens, a stone’s throw from the new Academy and whilst I was just a young child when they lived there, I grew up hearing stories about going to school at St Charles, now St Patricks our neighbouring school and playing football on the fields close by.

Consequently, I am well aware of the history of the area which Trinity Academy will serve and the significant part local people have played in making Leeds the city it is today. I look forward to playing my part in supporting the community, especially the young people who join us to fulfil their ambitions, maximise their potential and in turn build on the rich legacy of the area. Away from school, I enjoy playing football and watching Leeds United back where they belong!

Thank you for taking the time to read my fourth blog.
